The WAREO
Project Type
Combat Robotics
Date
September 2023 - Present
The WAREO is a Shell Spinner built for the Rose-Hulman Combat Robotics team. It builds on the knowledge from my first robot Triton but it is a complete redesign. It was about a 3 month design process from idea on the board to shipping the robot to an event. The event it competed at was National Havoc Robotics League's New Bots event and although it went 0-2 I was able to learn so much.
In talking to other builders at the event I was able to pick the brains of some of the best minds in combat robotics. During these talks I learned that the robot shows a physics phenomena known as the Intermediate Axis Theorem. This is where the robot has two dynamically stable positions while rotating and to fix this I am going to have to do a large scale redesign.
I currently plan to bring this version of the robot to one more event before I make large changes, however I will be making some minor tweaks to patch some of the obvious flaws before then.
