Engineering Studio 1 in Class Projects
Project Type
Studio In Class
Date
August 2023 - November 2023
In all of the Design Studios we have in class projects that allow students to take them as far as they want. Many of these projects have taught me many amazing skills or just let me play with things that I have not before.
My personal favorite project was the Pi Pico Project. Each person was given a Pi Pico, some basic components, and a week to make a Halloween decoration. We were encouraged to use block programing but I took this week to learn how to program a ras pi using python. I used an open source mechanical eye that I 3D printed and the 2 servos that we were given to have something to program. I then spent the week making a class based motion profile that could run all kinds of different soothing loops. This was a tone of fun and taught me a tone about programing in python and working with hardware that I had never touched before.
Another project that I really enjoyed was the fidget spinner. We were tasked to make a fidget spinner that could accept several different size bearings parametrically. I took the time to play around with Center of Mass points in Solid Works as we had just talked about them on our combat robotics team.
The Top machining project taught me a lot about how to machine to specific tolerances and I loved asking the instructor questions that helped prepare me for some of the more complex machining that I would later have to do for other projects.
We also had a sketch book that we had fill over the quarter and this let me start to learn how to do good hand drawings that could communicate ideas which was something that I had been wanting to learn how to do for a very long time.
